Maternity sessions are generally scheduled for somewhere between 32-36 weeks gestation, 28-32 for multiples.  If you have other children, you are welcome to include them in your session, bring only your spouse or parter, or even make it just about you and your belly.

How long will my session take?

Most sessions take 30 - 45 minutes, but may take as little as 15 minutes or as long as an hour. 

Where will our session take place?

I shoot on location and have a number of suggestions for both free and paid indoor and outdoor locations including commercial studios. I'm happy to come to your home and include photos of the nursery as part of your session.  Most outdoor locations are free. Indoor rates vary from location to location and range from $25/hour to $400/hour.

What should we wear?

Everyone doesn't need to match but they should be in the same tone or intensity (all in neutrals, pastels, or bright colours) - or the same colour family (greys, blues or greens work best.) It's also best to avoid fluorescent colours, busy or bold prints, and logos or licensed characters. For indoor and studio sessions be prepared to coordinate your socks or wear bare feet!  If you want belly photos, please make sure you wear separates (shirt plus pants or skirt) and if you are interested in renting or buying a maternity gown (bandeau top with lace or sheer panels) I would be delighted to refer you to my favourite local suppliers.

What should I bring?

I encourage you to bring a couple of special items to the session - the ultrasound photo, a special pair of shoes, an heirloom blanket, baby's first teddy bear. If you are bringing older children, bring wipes for runny noses and dirty faces, water or apple juice (instead of bright red fruit punch) for thirst, and apple slices or bananas (instead of M&Ms and blueberries) for snacks. You're welcome to bring an extra change of clothes if you can't decide what to wear (or think you might get dirty). Don't forget lip gloss or a beard comb if you need one, either!

What's included with my session fee?

My travel time to and from the session location, your camera time, and basic post-processing (image clarity, colour corrections, removal of blemishes, etc.) before highlights from your session are featured on the pictureLOVE blog. Advanced edits such as removal of braces are charged at a fee of $50/image. Please note that image retouching is limited to things that are "temporary" - I can get rid of bruises and pimples but you get to keep your scars and dimples.

How many pictures will I get?

Generally, a session yields 10-25 images which are provided in both colour and black and white (20 - 50 images total). This number varies greatly with the mood and cooperativeness of the subject(s).

How long before I get my photos?

I ask for 8-10 weeks for delivery of images, though on average the wait for teasers on the blog is less than 2 weeks. Can I have the files? Yes! You will receive your watermarked webshare images in a private Google gallery, and the high-resolution files via electronic file transfer. USBs or CD/DVDs are provided on request for a nominal fee.

Can I share my pictures on the internet?

Yes! I love it when you share the blog post from your session, @ me on Instagram, Facebook, or Twitter, and use these hashtags: #pictureLOVEtm #HopeWalls #YEGphotographer. You may also share individual watermarked images from your Google album online anywhere you like provided you DO NOT crop the watermark off. Again, I'm all over the @ and #!!!

Where should I get prints made?

You are welcome to get prints made anywhere you like however for best results I suggest using Technicare or the following:

Paper prints up to 11x14 - McBain, Costco, London Drugs

Mounted prints and canvases, prints larger than 12 x 12 - Vivid Print

I provide design for other specialty products including magnetic photo books, albums, calendars, and other keepsakes at a rate of $50/hr + costs and shipping using a variety of professional printers including WHCC, Finao, and SmugMug.
