birth photo FAQs - Hope Walls

Birth photos are a special keepsake for parents who wish to have an intimate and unique record of their child's birth.  I am a non-intrusive observer but can step in as an experienced birth coach when needed.  I've attended over 25 home and hospital births and can provide excellent references.  To see a complete birth story, please visit this page.

How soon should we call you?

It's best if you stay in regular contact as your due date nears and keep me informed of the unpleasant personal details so that I can try to clear my calendar accordingly.   I will need to ask you personal questions regarding your pregnancy including details of previous deliveries if you have given birth before so that when it is determined that labour is established, I can determine when it's time to head to the hospital.

What if you're not available?

While every effort will be made to be present for your child's birth, I do have other obligations that may prevent me from being available at all times.  Likewise, if labour stalls I may have to leave before delivery. If I am not available, every effort will be made to find a suitable alternate.  Charges may apply.  Payment is due prior to delivery of the photographs.

What if you miss the birth?

There are times when labour progresses more swiftly than anticipated and I am unable to arrive in a timely fashion.  In cases as such, I will endeavour to take as many photos as possible from the time I arrive, to construct a meaningful album, as there are still many memorable moments in the first hour after delivery, including cuddles with parents, getting weighed, and meeting siblings, family, and close friends.

What if we end up having a c-section?

Unfortunately, you are only able to bring one person in with you to your delivery if a c-section becomes necessary and I strongly encourage parents to choose their spouse over their photographer.  As with missed births, there are still many sweet moments to capture once Mom is back in her room,  including cuddles with parents, getting weighed, and meeting siblings, family, and close friends.

How many pictures will we get?

There is absolutely no way to determine how many images you will receive, but I assure you that I will do my very best to capture the important (and not so important) moments that make your birth story unique.
